This will be the 8th year and we have raised lots of money over the years!! As usual our charity will be Donate Life. For those of you new to this project, it is a birthday scrapbook of pages designed by each of you and placed in the book. The only stipulation is that you make a donation to Alex's charity through me. Then on his birthday Debbie (alexmaxband.com) sends him the book and sends a large check to Donate Life in his name. This is a project that means a lot to Alex and he has told Debbie it is always the best gift he could ever get. Long time no talk! Sorry to have disappeared for a while, but I have been working on many different projects and most importantly to me, trying to get this album out! I want to first talk about the album since I’m sure that is the biggest question on all of your minds. I was so hoping to have at least the first single to radio in the US by now, but I got caught up once again with moronic people who promised one thing and did another. I so wish I could go into detail about all the crap I've been put through. Maybe one day. Anyway, the bottom line is that more of my time got wasted and I had to switch up the plan yet again and find necessary funds elsewhere. This is still going to be an independent release here in the US, and a major label release internationally. I can't say what label yet, but when the international deal is closer to being finished I will let you all know. The current plan is to put the single out in the US by August, with an American tour to coincide for the rest of the year. Then album out this Fall. I will then take the single and album internationally and tour the world. The business is sooooo beyond screwed up and bizarre right now that it's become harder to properly put an album like mine out than it is to actually make it successful once it is out! Totally backwards. I keep telling myself that it's taken this long for a reason, whatever that might be...I'm hoping it was to find the right people to get behind me and this album and I do believe we've finally found that. As soon as the deals become more firm, I will let you all know the details and then the exact timing of the release of my long, long overdue album. I've had to push through some pretty insane obstacles, but I am finally feeling truly close to this dream becoming a reality. So please be patient with me just a little bit longer, it will all be worth it in the end. On to the other news... As many of you Brazilian fans may know already, I will be doing a quick full band tour there the beginning of next month (June). Unfortunately it isn't to coincide with the release of the first single for the album, it's simply to visit you all and play some more shows, which I'm dying to do. The rest of the world, please understand that I haven't been playing shows in your countries because it is impossible to do so without an album out. However, Brazil is a place that luckily keeps having me back, and of course, I'm not going to miss out on that opportunity since I am hungry to perform. I miss Europe and Asia and all the other places I used to tour so much and I can't wait to get back out there soon. But for right now it's back to Brazil, and that's fine with me cause I love the country and you Brazilian fans rock:) I've got an awesome new band and a new set and some new songs and am ready to make these few shows next month the best I've ever done. Check the tour dates section for updated shows. I do know I will be arriving in Brazil June 4th and leaving sometime around the 14th…possibly then to Singapore for some shows as well. There should be at least 5 shows throughout Brazil...and I am desperately trying to have one in Belo Horizonte! And I will of course be bringing EPs again and signing for you all after each show. Some of you may also know that I am working with Spanish Soap Star Gabriella Spanic on her new album. She has been a pleasure to work with and we are doing some pretty exciting stuff together. We’re just finishing up the mixes and all the video is already edited and put together. You are all really going to enjoy this thing once it’s in your hands, I’m very, very proud of it. Sorry I haven't been around but things have been crazy recently, both personally and professionally. I've been fighting to the death to get everything together to release this album and I'm happy to say that with the help of private investors and a partnership with a new independent label we are ready to go! The first step will be a first single release to radio in the US only, which will coincide with a full US tour to support it. We need to break this record domestically before we go global. I wish we could do the whole world all at once but it just isn't possible. I will let you all know the details of which song the first single will be and when exactly we will be taking it to radio. The album release date will be contingent on how the first single does and how long it takes to do what it does...if that makes sense;) But bottom line is both the first single and album will be out this year soon enough and I will touring again. As soon as possible after we've secured the US we will take our tour and the single to Europe and Asia and South America. I wish I had an exact time, but there are too many variables to know now. The good news is I can finally move forward, and in a way where a major label can't hold me back or ruin my chances of success. It took forever to get to this point, but it will be very much worth the wait. Everything is coming along great and I'm doing my best to speed up the process as much as I can. I did pass the first major hurdle which took quite some time which has allowed me to now say that I am 100% officially free of Universal Records/Geffen and I OWN my whole album (this was not an easy task!). Since Alex is now an independent musician every sale is important and if people start illegally sharing his songs, he will be the one who is hurt by it. He and I had a long discussion about this and Alex told me I can quote him on this - "Please make the fans aware that because I am completely independent now, I rely entirely on my sales...and if I don't sell enough music I can't tour. So with every person that steals a copy of a song, they are making it that much harder for me to ever see them on tour or continue to make music." Obviously I am very upset and frustrated about this, as is the TV show, which had to rush and replace all my music in the episode (the edit I saw was looking great too)….but I guess it’s a perfect example of yet another reason why having my own label is the way to go. I've been working on leaving my label for a while now, and moving to somewhere else to put this record out finally and give it the push it deserves…and I'm happy to announce that I will be putting the record out ON MY OWN! With help from good friends in the business and an amazing team, I'm putting together my own Label. This gives me the freedom to make my own decisions, to invest in myself, and to do what I want, when I want. This is the way to go these days in the music business and I am sooooooo lucky to be able to do it. There are no firm details as to when exactly the record will be released, but I am doing everything in my power to make the process as speedy as possible. I will let you all know of course as soon as I find out more. Now on to even better news…I am in the process of booking sporadic shows all over the US starting in April. Most of them will be college dates and private gigs at first, but there are also talks of a tour this summer with a bigger name act and a possible headlining tour later in the year. Also, we are now booking a 3-week Brazilian tour to start the end of this June that will possibly spill over to other countries in South America. As soon as dates have been set I will let all you fans down there know. I'm so excited! I am sooooo looking forward to getting back out on the road, playing Calling favorites and lots of great new songs as well. I have an awesome new band and we're currently rehearsing to get ready to play for you all. And NOW I will be able to offer you some of my new material at the shows before I even release it worldwide on own my private label! As most of you are aware, Geffen recording artist, Alex Band, and his wife, Jennifer Sky Band have been supporting Donate Life America for many years. What you don't know is, over the past several months Alex and Jennifer have been in the process of creating their own "Donate Life" organization. This new and exciting organization will be known as "Alex Band's Donate Life Rocks" and is being created to promote organ, eye and tissue donation awareness through concerts and events using the entertainment industry. This July, Alex Band's Donate Life Rocks will produce its first concert in conjunction with the Hard Rock Cafe Universal City in Los Angeles. Over the next few weeks we will be announcing the line up, venue and all details associated with the event. I wanted to give you all an update, as my timeline has unfortunately changed a bit. Just this last week, I did the final live string sessions for the record, it was by far the most magical moment yet. Check back later today to watch it all in the 15th in-studio video! I will be doing some final tweaking this coming week on the album, and then we will be mixing everything in a couple weeks, which will take some time as well. I don’t know how much you all know about the current state of the music business, but it is very, very bleak. Major labels are dropping like flies, record stores are closing left and right, and bands…talented bands, are getting let go on a daily basis. It’s a sad thing to be a part of this and watch it over the last bunch of years. Needless to say, this does affect me. Every step I take to push my record to come out sooner, I have to take another step back, due to other circumstance that I have no control over. Now, with all that said, I want you all to know that my record will come out this year, it will be better than you can imagine, and my label is very much behind it. All this extra time has done nothing but let me write more incredible songs and make this record sound even better…so there is a positive! But obviously, just like all of you, I am wanting to be out there touring and sharing this album with the world. It’s getting very close, but it won’t be this month like I was told. Instead of specifying an actual week or month, I am just going to tell you guys once I know the actual date, when it is set in stone. This money will be used to set up an Education Fund at Donate Life in Alex's names. Here are the details. The Alex Band Education Fund for Donate Life This fund has been set up in Alex's name to work towards educating the public on the importance of organ donation. Our mission is to get the word out to as many people as we can and to try to make an impact on Donate Life's nationwide goal to register 100 million people as organ donors. The plan is to have educational material pertinent to each State at Alex's shows when he goes on tour this year to encourage people to register as Organ Donors. Studies have shown that most people support Organ Donation but either don't know how to register or have not taken the time to do so. We think we can make a real difference in adding to those registries in each state. I will continue to update everyone on how the Alex Band Education Fund is working throughout the year and many years to come. Next year is going to be amazing! My record is finally going to come out and I get to tour the world again and see you all! There's still much work to be done on the record…next month I will be finishing up the two songs I'm currently working on with Matt Serletic, doing all the live strings for the 6 songs I recorded with Tal, recording 3 other songs with two new producers, finishing producing the song Arms and I wrote, and finally mixing everything with an amazing mixer named Jack Joseph Puig! And then of course it will be time to get a kick ass band together and get ready for the fun stuff! The first single is still due out March and the record will be released worldwide sometime around June. I can't believe I'm actually making my record! The guy you keep seeing in the videos is Tal Herzberg and we're producing a bunch of tracks together. He's worked along side of Ron Fair for years now and is stepping out on his own to produce my record. Shortly, I'll be starting to record a bunch of tracks with Matt Serletic producing and then finally Ron Fair himself. The three of them are unique in what they do and how they approach their selected songs, so it will make for a very diverse and interesting final product. I can't even explain how good it felt to be in there putting these songs down on tape that have been swimming in my head for a year and a half now (granted, there is no "tape" anymore :). We started today with the song "Euphoria", which you might have heard a clip from the live acoustic show I did last week. I tell you, the acoustic clip does this song no justice! It's sounding amazing with the full band, who by the way are insanely good players...I can't wait for you guys to hear it! I did a little filming today around the studio and I'm going to make it a point at the end of each week to put at least one video together to give to you all. I'll of course be taking some pictures as well of all that goes on behind the scenes. The celebrity who won would get $1000 donated to their favorite charity and the person who got them to call would get $500. Donate Life Announcement 05.02.06-This message was included in the latest newsletter sent out from AMB.com. "As I am sure many of you are aware, organ and tissue donation is a subject close to Alex's heart. Media Blvd., an entertainment portal comprising of several hundred message boards and web sites for actors, musicians, television shows and films is working in conjunction with the Coalition on Donation (Donate Life) to promote awareness of organ and tissue donation. In a concerted effort to educate people and further this worthy cause, Media Blvd and the Coalition on Donation are launching a campaign to highlight the issues surrounding organ and tissue donation. It’s amazing;) I finally just passed a key moment that I’ve been waiting for…I signed my name on the dotted line to become part of A&M/Interscope’s family of artists! So why is it that I signed with A&M you might ask? Well, other than their amazing roster of musicians, my good friend who signed me to RCA 8 years ago runs the company! Yes, Ron Fair, my next-door neighbor from many moons ago, right there on good old Camino Palmero, where it all started, has signed me again! He left RCA shortly after I finished The Calling’s first record in 2000 to become the head of A&M and has since done very well for the label. I’m super excited about this new partnership and I can’t wait to meet my new team who vow to make this record huge when it comes out next year! Currently, I’m still writing and recording as I go, with multiple producers and it’s making for some insane music! I’ve got classic “Calling-like” love songs, big rock songs, songs that have dance, R&B and urban beats, underneath larger guitar driven rock, piano based songs, female vocalists, church choirs, horn sections, big string sections, you name it! I'm sorry I haven't checked in for a while, but I have been super busy with my new record. I’m just finishing writing for my solo record and we now have a collection of over 20 amazing songs to chose from! We’re currently finding the right producer now and are planning to start recording by September. I’m sooooo excited! As a little treat for you guys while you wait, I happened to dig up the funniest old home video of me ever, and I wanted to share it with you all! It’s my 6th grade elementary school graduation. Not much has changed, I was still fixing my hair every other second 13 years ago and writing songs and playing guitar. This video is extra special because it was my first live performance EVER. My elementary school had a Greek Olympics theme for our graduation, so forgive my toga! All the love News From Alex Originally posted on www.alexbandmusic.com 7.5.05 -So, as most of you have heard by now, I have decided to put The Calling on hold and do a solo record. I am extremely excited about this and trust me, the future will be great! The two shows we played last month were the last Calling shows for the time being. Thank you to all the fans who came from all over the country, and even Canada to see us play! The shows were incredible to say the least. I know you have many questions right now, and I’ll do my best to answer them here in this letter and on the upcoming message board on this site. So, starting with the incredible band we now have playing with us…if all goes as planned, they will be right behind me on stage next year when I go back on tour for my solo album. We have all become close friends and they are an extremely talented bunch of guys. I’m looking forward to getting back on the road with them and my new material and so are they. We will ALWAYS play everyone’s favorite Calling songs live. That is extremely important to me and will not change. As for our online site and The Loft…addresses and layouts will change, but our awesome community of friends will not. I hope to see everyone follow me on this new journey. I am no longer working with RCA/BMG. I will be working with a new major label that will take care of me very well. I have surrounded myself with friends and supporters to take me to the next level, so I can tour the world again on an even bigger scale and see each and every one of you. I hope to have big success as a solo artist and I plan on revisiting The Calling later on. That is my ideal situation. I wish I could sit you all down now and play you the demos of my new material I have created, cause I’m so excited to share it with you…but that would take too long! At least I know you will all be hearing it soon! My mission for the rest of this year is to include you all on every step of my solo career; My new online site and The Alex Band Loft soon to open, which record label I am soon to be signed to, when I will be going into the studio, video and audio of the creation of my new record, etc. So, stay tuned and I will fill you in on all that is to come.
